So today I felt inspired to try something new and I totally loved it! I made Cake Pops, in the style of Bakerella. I tried the bee cake pops today and although I definitely made the wings too small I think they're still pretty cute! Not to mention the fact that they are delicious :-)
This year for Greg's birthday we made cupcakes. We were trying to think of something appropriate to honor Greg and since he is starting his perio residency next year we decided that a perio probe was more than appropriate! All our instruments at school have "Hu-Friedy" written on the handle, which is the name of the company that makes them. We carefully calibrated the measurements on the probe end and wrote "Hu-Friedy" on the handle just to make a more accurate representation. Emily also picked up a cookie cake for him. We didn't make it, but the cookie cake and cupcakes made a good combo!
This year for Elaina's birthday she decided she wanted a Justin Bieber cake. I have no idea how she knows who Justin Bieber is (I mean seriously, she's only 5!) but I do think that the cake was pretty Bieber-tastic. Do you have Bieber fever? Kudos to Sara...she was definitely the brains and muscle behind this beauty!
For a faculty member's birthday we made these monster cupcakes. They came in different shapes and sizes, including little cyclops mini cupcakes. They were a big hit at school!
This year for Sara's birthday we decided to decorate cupcakes...about a million of them. We had mini cupcakes, normal sized cupcakes, large cupcakes, and one giant cupcake. We had a few different types of flowers that we decorated the cupcakes with. By the time we had all 50 or so cupcakes decorated it was a pretty impressive sight!
In honor of the last BCS Championship game that we would celebrate together as dental students, Alex and Greg invited everyone over to watch the game. Emily and I made this football cake as our contribution to the celebration, complete with grassy surroundings. Pretty impressive :-)
Traci's husband James recently turned 30. Although he had an ice cream cake, we decided to make a few cupcakes as well. Since he loves German chocolate and the Boston Red Sox, we combined the two to make some wicked awesome cupcakes.
This year for Traci's birthday, we made a fondant masterpiece. We made the flowers from gum paste, covered them in shimmer powder, and put them on a beautifully covered fondant cake. It was pretty impressive, if I do say so myself :-)
For Britany's birthday we decided we wanted to make an owl cake. She said she didn't care what kind of cake she had and I'd been wanting to make this cake for a long time, so I did. We decided to name him Owlbert Einstein, which we thought was pretty hilarious!
For his birthday, Sara's nephew Thomas requested a dinosaur cake. We made a dinosaur world, complete with an active volcano. Can you see the "steam" coming out of the volcano?
One night Emily, Britany, and I decided to try our hands at gum paste flowers. We got some cupcakes, then make the flowers to decorate them. It was definitely a learning experience, but we had some cute cupcakes nonetheless.
At the beginning of our school year, the Bunches hosted a Burger Bash. Since it is our 4th (and final!) year of dental school and we've had a Bunch Burger Bash every year, it's the 4th Bunch Burger Bash. The party was super fun and the cake was pretty cute, too!
Greg loves to fish, so for his birthday we made this fish cake. It was actually a blue velvet cake (rather than red velvet!) with cream cheese frosting. It was delicious!
